With the passing of our mum, Paula, we have come to the very difficult and emotional decision that re-homing the dogs is in their best interests. As of current standing, Finty (1.5 years) is spoken for and headed to her new home last weekend.
We are still searching for a lovely home for Jess & Dot, ideally as a pair. They are mother and daughter, and we’d love to keep them together if possible.
Dot (Dotty / Dorothy) – Girl – 5 yrs old (6y/o in March) – great pedigree – DARK RED FOX . Spade .
A delightful bright and energetic dog. She walks to heel well with a loose lead , She recalls well and is mostly walked off lead in out rural life. She is FAST !. Very good natured temperament and trains well. She is very dog tolerant, but does fall out with 2 specific local dogs (after they got a bit too ‘male’ with her). She appears to have no allergies or anything of concern. She does get nervous in storms and with fireworks (nothing too bad - just needs a cuddle!) She will bark very rarely. She is still very the most ‘eager’ of our dogs to get walking and running. She doesn’t like to poo in the garden and eagerly await her walk. She does not chew and we can normally leave her 4-5 hrs without concern. Dot was the puppy we chose to keep from a beautiful litter of 8 puppies from Jess. She eats regular kibble 2x a day.
Jess – Girl – 10 yrs old (11y/o in July) – great pedigree – RED FOX . Spade .
The wisest dog you will know.…Looks at you deeply … A healthy beautiful dog with some good years left . She has recently had 2 benign fatty lumps removed to ensure they don’t develop into anything that might cause mobility restriction. She walks 5 miles every day , will mostly walk to heel now and let the young ones do all the frantic running around….but she still has her running about moments. She was a great gundog ( picking up) and retrieved and delivered and worked so well between 2 and 7 years. Retired from field work now . We had a brilliant breeding with Jess and Peterspond labrador ( Dorset) . The litter of 8 were all fabulous and homed by myself and we still have birthday catch ups every year with all the puppies. Jess was the best mum and was bonded with Dot very clearly as a puppy. Well trained and a delight to walk. Very good natured temperament and a very dog tolerant. She appears to have no allergies or fears ( bit shaky going into vets!) and anything of concern. She will bark with people arriving in the house, but calms very quickly. we can normally leave her 4-5 hrs without concern. She eats regular kibble 2x a day.
What we are looking for:
The top priority is the dogs welfare and life ahead. They all deserve a great life and we know they can offer families a tremendous amount of love and fun back. We hope to re-home Jess and Dot together (as they are Mum and daughter ). Obviously this does place a higher demand on the adopter. Considering Jess’s age we would fulfil any age related vets bills for Jess to ensure this doesn’t become a significant restriction to having her re-homed well.
Because of the circumstances leading us to seek re-homing …there are some ‘human aspects’ we would like to try and seek as a possible match;
Locality – within a drive of Berkshire ( our home) – are the dogs accessible ?
Would the new owners be open to infrequent requests for ad hoc visits to check in….take the dog for a walk , or even have a day away at the beach for example. This openness would mean an awful lot and help the mental stress of letting go.
Would the new owners be willing to send updates on Whatsapp – to keep us connected with their lives – especially during this transition.
Would the new owners be open to having a ‘probation period’ of say a month - where dogs , owners can fully confirm they are settling well and if not, lets be honest and reverse everything to try another avenue .
Best,
Megan
